Ethics Responsive Use of Self
6 CEUs available upon completion through The Oregon Chapter of the National Association of Social Workers. Cost is $150.
Being responsive in our use of self is an ethical choice. It honors our responsibility to be effective in our work, to “do no harm”, and to treat our clients in ways that are validating of strengths and respectful of needs and vulnerabilities. The materials include several handouts, a post-quiz (for CEUs) and post-survey.
Specifically, we will explore:
- Useful guidelines for the responsive use of self-disclosure,
- Strategies for building an authentic and trustworthy therapeutic alliance
- The value of Polyvagal theory and the power of co-regulation
- Ways to enhance attention to the relational/emotional dynamics
- Thoughtful awareness of social identities (ours and our clients)
- Mindfulness practices to enhance therapeutic presence.
Total length of training includes approximately 5 hours of video and one hour allotted for review and application of handouts and materials. This training was originally recorded May 8, 2020 in Portland, OR.
